Why Do We Need To Upcycle?

THE PROBLEM WITH PLASTIC

Plastic pollution is one of the biggest environmental challenges today. We use more plastic than necessary, and much of it is designed for single use. With over 380 million tons of plastic produced each year and less than 9% being recycled, the problem continues to grow.

Plastic is a versatile material used in countless items, from toothbrushes to clothing. However, its durability means it takes years to break down, causing environmental harm. Toxic chemicals can leach into soil and water, while animals can become entangled or trapped in plastic waste. Alarmingly, experts predict that by 2050, our oceans could contain more plastic than fish.

WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT?

Instead of discarding plastic, we can recycle it by breaking it down and transforming it into new products like clothing and furniture. Around 50% of plastic is single-use and designed to be thrown away, but upcycling helps reduce this waste.

Upcycling not only keeps plastic out of the environment but also decreases the need for new plastic production. Producing new plastic releases harmful chemicals, depletes natural resources, and wastes energy.
